Dr.Ruta Inamdar. Nature Lover

2007 -2008
Seasons are much stabilized as compared to last two years.
There were heavy rains.
Cold started late in December and continued till Feb.
Temperature touched lowest in last 25 yrs.
Now summer is very hot as compared to earlier years.
According to Marathi Calender, February- March is month Chaitra.
Old leaves are shed and Chaitra Palavi i.e. new leaves come.
Here are pictures of Badam Tree showing this miracle of nature.

Peepal tree,"Mummy,Mummy, today is new year eve. See how nicely humans are dressed up. Mamma, even I want new clothes!"
Mamma got beautiful clothes for Peepal tree on new year eve!

Hello!
I am a nature lover.
Are you?
Then feel free to exchange your experiences with nature.
I love nature.
But, being a scientist, I try to analyse the changes occuring in nature in relation to global warming and changing environment.
It was new year eve.
I peeped out of my window and was surprised to see the peepal (Saccred Ficus - Ficus religiosa) tree outside.
It had shed old leaves and was wearing small buds of new leaves.
I was quite surprised!
For years together, leaves are shed by he end of February or stating of march.
Why it happened by december end?
And the new leaves are maturing very slowly
Do you have any explanation?

Even Banyan tree asked mother earth for new clothes and mama got it !

Banyan tree in India is Ficus benghalensis

But Pangara tree was not all that lucky.
Mamma could not give new clothes to it!

And Finally it fell down!

Two years back till 2005, by the end of February, Pangara tree used to dress up beutifully in orange red as in the pictur below.

Out of the five trees in our campus, two fell down.

Three remaining are with crippled leaves.

They do not bloom.

And now in 2008, no Pangara tree is remaining in our campus.

Are they becoming Extinct? Due to Global Warming?

How can we save these trees?
Pangara /Mandar/ Indian Coral tree is Erythrina indica
